Schultz Fire Land & Trails Rehabilitation - National Trails Day on Little Bear Trail - Flagstaff
 |
 |
The Little Bear Trail on the north east slope of Mount Eldon is in the heart of the 2010 Schultz Fire area. Closed because of dead fall dangers. there has also been serious erosion on this dramatic trail. The FS has removed dangerous trees, so that restoration can now get underway. This National Trails Day event will kick-off rehabilitation work on this 3.5 mile long trail starting from Little Elden Trail. Work either on NTD (Saturday) or Sunday or both.

Camp site has been confirmed and is primitive. The work site requires a walk-in of about 3 mi with tools . You will be working at the 8000ft level in an exposed area, so it could be hot. The work will start on top and work downward. Camp will be set up Friday late afternoon. Coffee service Saturday am, dinner Saturday evening and full breakfast Sunday provided by VOAz. All tools provided. You will work in a small crew under the direction of a VOAz trained Crew Leader.
Saturday evening, award winning Arizona story teller Sally Borg will entertain you with her famous Bobcat Scat story.
The work is, on average, hard if only because we will be at high elevation for those driving up from the Valley. Please note on your registration if you are interested in ride sharing in the space where this is provided. All volunteers camping are expected to help with camp set-up and take down; and, with food service and clean-up tasks.
Flagstaff Biking Organization has posted these post-burn images at the web These photos are a bit out of date as some repair work has been done and more will be done before this event.
Please view Video #2 on Safety and other videos about trail work at our Training Page.
