The Joy of Trail Work
Michael Baker, Second Edition (June 2009)
© 2009 Volunteers for Outdoor Arizona
Garnered from over ten years of the many lessons learned about trail building and maintenance in arid lands, the second edition of this ninety page handbook
includes detailed how-to-build-it descriptions and illustrations of the standard elements of trail construction.
|
Written for trail builders, crew leaders, trail planners and land managers with trail responsibilities, the booklet is small enough to take into the field.
While many fine trail building guides are available, The Joy of Trail Work is the first to focus on the special requirements of building sustainable, low-maintenance trails in arid landscapes.
This publication was made possible from the support provided by the Dorothy Garske Center, Arizona State parks and REI.
The author's limited command of the facts and the English language were substantially ameliorated by the following
reviewers/editors: Ed Blanchard, Thom Hulen, Carla Olson, Charlie Scully, Mike Snodgrass, and Bruce Weidenhamer.
